£28 that changed the world - The Story of the Rochdale Pioneers

The Story of the Rochdale Pioneers

By the early 1830s there were around 300 co-operative societies in the UK, but often ran into problems through giving credit, lack of business experience or were unable to recruit new members to move into a new generation.

28 ordinary working people who had learned from these experiences and ideas decided in 1844 to form a co-operative society and created a model which could be followed by others.

Find about the values and ideas which shaped the story of the Pioneers and early spread co-operation from a store in Rochdale to all sort of businesses.
