Trading with the world

From the very earliest days, the Co-operative Wholesale Society sourced food and materials from overseas and supplied its own products to co-operatives abroad.  It even ran its own shipping fleet. The Society pioneered global supply chains which not only ensured cheaper goods for its consumer members but also flew the flag for fair prices for farmers and better treatment for workers.

The stories of trade in tea, cocoa, palm oil and bacon are amongst those found in this voyage of discovery through documents and photographs from the National Co-operative Archive.
